Seyed Tabatabaei, Ph.D.
President & CEO, Founder
Dr. Seyed Tabatabaei founded mmTron in 2020. He previously served as CEO at Teramics, a design services company focused in mmwave markets. Prior to that, Dr. Tabatabaei was VP of Semiconductor products of Endwave Corporation, a manufacturer of RF, microwave and millimeter-wave products, which was acquired by Renesas. Earlier positions include Engineering Manager of Microelectronics organization within Hewlett Packard (Keysight Technologies). Prior to HP, he worked at MaCom and Laboratory for Physical Sciences. Dr. Tabatabaei holds a PhD from University of Maryland in College Park and management Certificate from MIT Sloan School of Business
Board Member, Co-Founder
Mona Molaasgari brings over 17 years of experience in mmwave technology with a proven track record in managing operation in a fast-paced start-up. She has a in-depth knowledge of supply chain in RF, mm-Wave, Microwave, medical and Optoelectronics.
Mona holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a certificate in SAP.
Sina Barkeshli, Ph.D.
Vice President of System Engineering
Dr. Sina Barkeshli is a Senior communications system engineer with more than 30 years experience in technical leadership, architecture design, project and program management, and delivery of the broadband communications systems.
He has a wealth of knowledge in the millimeter wave sub-system design and development for next generation high throughput satellite communications payload; i.e., LNA, Receiver, Filters, Up- and Down-convertors, and SSPAs.
Babak Soltanian, Ph.D.
Advisor, IC Design Engineering
Babak Soltanian is a seasoned tech entrepreneur and engineering leader with more than 20 years of experience at Silicon Valley startups, Fortune 500 and International corporations. He has been spearheading innovation from concept to commercialization of CMOS/BiCMOS SoCs/RFICs for Autonomous Vehicles, 5G, IoT, and WiFi.
During a decade of career at big corporations until 2010, Babak held senior engineering positions at Qualcomm, Broadcom, and NEC where his ground breaking RF/Analog/Mixed-Signal designs became an essential part of multiple generations of commercial RFIC/SoCs for Cellular, WiFi, and storage devices. Babak holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University with major in RF Integrated Circuits and a minor in Technology/Innovation Management. He also graduated with a doctoral degree in Wireless Communications from Tampere University of Technology in Finland, and received his MS, BS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology.
Matt Amel, BSc, MSc
Director of Product Management and 5G Network Optimization
Matt Amel has over 15 years of experience in Operation, Product Management, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. As the director of product management at Acxiom, he led the creation of the next generation ML Platform. Previously he led the launch of many innovative predictive models (optimization, anomaly detection, …) at Sumo Logic, Rocket Fuel, and AOL/Verizon. Early on he worked at Bell Labs developing network management systems based on ITU-T standards. He holds two MSc degrees and BSc Eng from the Ohio State University.
Anh-Vu Pham, PhD
Advisor/Member of the Advisory Board of Directors
Prof. Anh-Vu Pham (Ph.D. Georgia Tech, 1999) is a full Professor at the University of Davis, CA conducting research in mmwave hybrid and integrated circuits. Prof. Pham has served in the Technical Program Committee of multiple IEEE conferences. Prof. Pham is a co-director of the Davis Millimeter Wave Research Center. Prof. Pham is the co-founder of RF Solutions (acquired by Anadigics) and Planarmag (acquired by TE Connectivity).
Glen Riley, BSEE
Glen Riley has a broad semiconductor industry career spanning over 32 years with several senior leadership roles in public companies. Most recently prior to retiring in 2017, Glen was the General Manager of the Filter Solutions Business Unit at Qorvo providing highly integrated BAW filter based modules to flagship mobile phone manufacturers including Apple and Samsung.
Prior to TriQuint merging with RFMD to form Qorvo, Glen established and made operational the first international headquarters for TriQuint based in Singapore. Earlier roles at TriQuint included VP/GM of the Commercial GaAs Foundry Business Unit and VP/GM of the Optoelectronics Business Unit. Before joining TriQuint, Glen was CEO of an optical technology startup called Opticalis. He has also led global teams growing profits with Agere Systems, Lucent Technologies, AT&T Microelectronics and Texas Instruments. Glen has lived overseas twice, once in Tokyo and again in Singapore.
Glen completed The General Management Program from the Harvard Business School and graduated as valedictorian from the School of Engineering at the University of Maine with a BSEE. He is currently a member of the board of directors at a public optoelectronics company called POET Technologies and an advisory board member with Resonant, an RF acoustic filter company.
Catherine Popovici, BA, MBA
Catherine Popovici has over 30 years of finance leadership experience in the technology, manufacturing and energy industries. Catherine has worked with companies of all stages of development: from seed stage through IPO to mature public enterprises. Most recently she was Director of Financial Solutions at BP, an energy company, where she ran global teams that implemented large-scale finance process automation initiatives. Prior to that, she was CFO of SPX Flow Technology Americas, a global industrial equipment manufacturer.
Prior to moving to Houston, Catherine was Corporate Controller of Silicon Storage Technology (NASDAQ: SSTI), a global fabless semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in Silicon Valley. Catherine joined SSTI as a private company and over her eight years there, led the finance function through the IPO process, building the necessary public company infrastructure and automating processes to enabled SSTI to scale rapidly. Catherine began her career at Price Waterhouse Coopers in Silicon Valley where she managed audits, IPOs and acquisition projects for semiconductor and software companies. Catherine earned her BA from Stanford University, her MBA from Santa Clara University and is a licensed CPA
George Black, BSc, MBA
George Black is a sales and marketing professional with more than 37 years experience in various roles including the last 5 years as North East Region Sales Manager for Qorvo, a position he retired from in August 2020. Qorvo is the merger of TriQuint and RFMD.
Prior to that, George was in the same position for TriQuint for 10 years; and, after being named region manager of the year in 2013, was competitively selected by Qorvo to continueas RSM at the end of 2014. George has had various industry positions, including sales director for AWR software, manager, where he developed an approach that allowed his area to have the largest percentage growth in North America in 2005.
George has also worked at Temic (an Atmel company) as North American business development manager selling SiGe foundry and components. George has had a number of other successful industry marketing and sales roles.
Prior to getting into the RF and microwave industry, George was honorably discharged from the US Army with a rank of Captain; while in the Army, George flew and maintained helicopters. George has a MS in Business Administration from Boston University
Brian Crutcher, BSc, MBA
Brian Crutcher brings over 25 years of semiconductor industry experience with extensive experience in leading large, worldwide organizations, P&L management, product development, and worldwide sales & digital marketing.
Mr. Crutcher spent 23 years at Texas Instruments, Inc. and served in executive positions ranging from Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, Member of Board of Directors, as well as Senior Vice President of Analog Products and Embedded Processors.
Brian was also an Advisory Board member at Resonant, Inc., a publicly traded 5G RF IP company and is currently operating Brian Crutcher Consulting, LLC focused on management consulting and advising.
He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1995, received the Distinguished Alumni Award by the College of Engineering and Computer Science in 2015 and is a member of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Advisory Board. Brian also earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Irvine in 2001.
Ali Abouzari, BSc, MBA
Former SciTech, MaCom, VP
Ali Abouzari has had extensive experience across Engineering, Marketing and Sales areas and his current position as Senior Vice President sales, marketing, and business development at ScitTech Wireless. He has held leadership positions with AT&T, Lucent Microelectronics, Opticalis, CyOptics, BinOptics, MACOM Technologies and SciTech Wireless. Successful exit of startup (BinOptics) purchased by public company (MACOM Technologies). He engineered successful start-up CyOptics, which was then purchased by Avago Technologies (now Broadcom). Ali’s experience also led him to launch an Optoelectronics company Opticalis which he pioneered and recruited the executive team including CEO, VP of Engineering, and Director of Manufacturing. He has also held extensive international experience which included roles in worldwide organizations and spent a lot of time in Asia under international assignment which included living in Japan.
Ali holds a Bachelors of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering as well as a Master of Engineering degree of Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Business.
Firaydun Zarghami, BSc, MS
Former Cisco, Director
Firaydun Zarghami is an accomplished quality management system expert with over 20 years of experience in the nuclear, networking, and semiconductor manufacturing industries. As the Senior Quality Lead at Sanmina and JABIL, he led quality management systems, improving operation quality, supply chain efficiency and led ISO 9001 and 9100 certification. Previously, he led the creation of a high touch escalation management model, KPI development and generated innovative quality tools to improve reliability across multiple products and market segments. He also led the integration of over 50 acquired companies into Cisco’s concurrent design, manufacturing operation, quality and compliance systems. He also led the design of specific mechanical equipment systems for commercial nuclear power plants at General Electric. At GE Astro Space, he tested and developed ectro-magnetic pumps while serving on a project for the United States Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Energy (DOE) Nuclear Space Power Program.
Firaydun holds BS and MS degrees in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University and Louisiana State University, respectively. Engineering as well as a Master of Engineering degree of Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Business.
Dennis Faerber, BSME
Advisor, Operations and General Management
Dennis Faerber brings over 45 years of high tech experience leading large global organizations with a focus on general management and operations. Mr. Faerber spent roughly 28 years with Hewlett Packard in R&D, Operations, Marketing and General management roles including responsibility for Agilent’s US Operations before moving on to roles in the semiconductor industry as EVP/COO of Advanced Energy, Group Vice President at KLA Tencor, Corporate VP of Operations at Applied Materials (AMAT). Most recently Dennis ran the global operations and services businesses of Intermec Technologies and retired from Itron Inc. as the SVP of global operations, continuing to consult. In many of these roles, Dennis’ focus was on assembling strong leadership teams and executing business and operational transformations.
He is a graduate of the University of Missouri at Rolla where he earned a BSME and his MSME studies. His MBA work was with a focus on operations research and attended the Stanford advanced manufacturing program.
